World Journal is growing and expanding

…And I don’t mean my waistline. We are excited to announce the opening of our third WJ office; in Raton at 113 2nd St, in the El Raton building right next to the historic Schuler Theatre. If you’re on the main drag of town, you can’t miss it. If you’re in Trinidad, our office is at 136 Main St, in the historic Johns building. We are really pleased to have a physical presence in the three biggest towns throughout our territory.

The other big new thing with us is our revamped website. Up until now we’ve used the website as an archival storage site; where we put stories AFTER the paper had come out.

Now, the website has all of our news, including up-to-date and even breaking news. We’ll be updating it throughout the week as stories break, with the big update on Thursday morning.

Obituaries and memoriams will have their pictures in color on the website, where far-flung relatives and friends will be able to immediately see what was written about their loved one. The current week’s classifieds will also be up online on Thursday mornings.

The other cool thing with the website is how a reader can customize what type of newsfeed they get. If a reader just wants to see news about their own county or their own town, or just news about sports or history, they can customize what pops up, through the pull down menus on top of the landing page.

Another exciting thing we are doing with the website is building up the best regional calendar of events. As we begin the bust summer season, it will be crucial for event organizers to be able to check and see what else might be happening throughout the region on the same day, and it will be wonderful for people looking for something to do to see all the options with one click.

The one thing we don’t have up yet are all of our archived stories. This is a MASSIVE amount of information and we’re chipping away at transferring it from our old site to the new one, so keep checking back if something from 2008 isn’t there for you to read.

Because of the amount of time, effort, and cost involved in keeping the site up-to-date rather than a week out of it, we are now charging for access to the articles on our site. If you only want a single article, you can read it for a mere 99 cents, and you can view that article forever. You can get an entire month of the newspaper online for only $3.99, or subscribe for the convenience of an online paper for $40 per year.

Hop online and check us out at: huerfanoworldjournal.com.

We thank you for your understanding and support as we move forward and grow.
