What’s up Underground?

by JC Copeland

WALSENBURG — What’s going on underground? The answer used to be “black diamonds”, now it’s a place to discover better health! Washington Underground Recreation Center is Walsenburg’s key to improving your overall wellbeing.

With a combination of new state-of-the-art workout equipment, free weights, cardio machines, basketball court for adults and youth, yoga classes, a walking group, senior exercise, line dancing, youth programs, POUND, and boot camp class; there truly is something for everyone. Reggie Bevsek provides instruction free of charge on how to use the equipment safely and effectively.

Located in the lower level of Washington School on East 5th Street in Walsenburg, Washington Underground was opened in spring of 2016 and since that time the space has improved with colorful murals and meeting spaces for the community to gather. There is also a beautiful theater, and a certified commercial kitchen available to rent.

Full, unlimited memberships available for $25 a month or pay a daily fee of only $2. Open Monday through Thursday 8:30 am-6:30 pm, Fridays from 8:30 am – 5 pm and Saturdays 10 am – 1 pm. Volunteers are always needed and groups are invited to use the facilities.
