Walsenburg Woman’s Club celebrates 60 years of service

The Walsenburg Woman’s Club met on Monday, March 14th at La Plaza Inn.

This is the club’s 60th anniversary and they were honored to have two of the original members present — Elaine Lenzini, who is this term’s president, and Francis Lenzotti, who is the corresponding secretary.

The club meeting opened with a welcome to CFWC state officials: president Mary Beth Williams, Secretary Mary Russell, Treasurer Sandra Varner, Society Chairman Jolene Robinson and Approved Projects Chairman Bessie Kanishi.

The ladies group welcomed them to the club’s anniversary party. An Irish Prayer and salad luncheon followed.

The following remarks report was given by Mary Beth and Suellen Levy gave a report on the club’s history. Some of the many things done by the club in years past were the establishment of a hospital district and helping to build the hospital, saving an historic building and repurposing it as our new library, beautifying the Miners Triangle, City Park, and hospital grounds by planting trees and flowers, Christmas decorations on Main Street, and working with our youth in various programs.

The club has had many members through the years with Fran and Elaine being the originals, flowed closely by Rosie Ritz with 55 years, all the way to Katy Kanning with one year of membership.

We always welcome new members/ Our next meeting will be on Monday, April 27th at 1 pm. It is “bring a guest to club day” and will be at the library. The celebration was closed with Irish song and visitation.
