Undefeated Redskins prepare for state run

LA VETA — In a 70-37 win over Manzanola, the La Veta Redskins have again demonstrated they are an explosive team from both sides of the line and have the depth to score from any position. In part due to a strong passing attack, en route to victory, La Veta’s offense racked up 369 yards in the air and seven touchdowns, the highest output in the category for the season. With 258 yards on the ground, even the 624-yard total was not their best offensive performance of the season. That record came in the game against Walsh the week before when they accrued 637 yards in the air and ground, for a total 701 yards. Those two stellar performances propelled the Redskins into the 6-Man limelight as the best offensive powerhouse in the state. Just about everyone on the Redskin bench saw their activities light up the scoreboard. In the first quarter, Trevor Warren connected with Brayden Dobbs on an 8 yard touchdown pass, followed by a Trevor Warren 27-yard TD run and a Ty Warren 1-yard run-in. In all three cases, the point-after runs failed. Manzanola found the end zone at the end of the first quarter, and La Veta led 18-6. In the second quarter, the Redskin scoring summary began off a Trevor Warren 4 yard run with a successful point after. The second score was a long 41 yard bomb from Eric Morgan to Gabriel Bellah. The third was a Brayden Dobbs 17-yard run and the last was a Morgan to Trevor Warren 19-yard pass. Manzanola also scored twice in the second, but could never seem to get the advantage, as La Veta scored on every drive. At the half the score was 44-19. The third quarter saw the Redskins score twice on touchdowns in the air. The first was a

Morgan to Trevor Warren 6-yard strike. The PAT was also in the air, a Morgan to Gabriel Bellah pass. Bellah also saw the end zone when he pulled down a 22-yard strike, then scored again off a 54 yard strike. Their last score came off a Morgan to Dobbs 13-yard pass. On the day, Gabriel Bellah had 188 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Brayden Dobbs rushed for 79 yards and had two touchdowns. On the ground, Trevor Warren rushed for 159 yards on 26 carries and tallied one touchdown; Dobbs came in with 78 yards on 7 carries and a TD. The Redskins officially clinched their league last week by virtue of their early season victory against second place finisher, Cotopaxi, who lost a non-league game last weekend. La Veta’s win makes them one of only three undefeated teams in 6-Man ball. The showdown of the undefeated will be played sometime in the next few weeks. (See related story…Playoffs).
