Three Strikes – weather, death, mechanics play havoc with JM baseball

LAS ANIMAS, WALSENBURG — The Panthers were able to play one out of four games last week, but as they say, when it rains it pours. In this case, snows. The John Mall Panthers had one chance to play earlier in the week and dropped the league game against the Las Animas Trojans April 1 by a score of 11-1. The ten-run rule kicked in after the Panthers failed to score in the top of the fifth inning. Their lone run came in the fourth inning, but that was all the Cats could muster offensively. In the game, the Panthers committed seven errors. John Mall was coming off a two-game winning streak against Cripple Creek and had momentum going into the week and was planning to continue their winning ways before circumstances prevented them. After the loss to the Trojans, the Panthers were scheduled to play Dolores Huerta last Thursday, but the game was called because of snow. The make-up game has not been announced. The Panthers traveled to Custer County to play the Bobcats but discovered the field empty. The Bobcats wanted to reschedule the game later

in the day because the time conflicted with the funeral of a long time employee. The change of times was not confirmed in advance, so the Panthers showed up to play ball and did not see action. The doubleheader is rescheduled for April 15 at 3 and 5pm. Finally, the Panthers were to see action on Tuesday against Antonito. However the game was cancelled due to the Antonito bus breaking down on La Veta pass. The game is tentatively rescheduled for Tuesday, April 29 at 3 pm at John Mall.
