LA VETA — On Friday, September 2 at 7 pm, the legendary country rock group The Burrito Brothers will be performing at the Francisco Center for the Performing arts (127 W. Francisco). This is the second in the Orphan Americana Project’s 2016 Summer Concert Series.
The band is considered by most music historians to be the first and premier country rock group. Formed as The Flying Burrito Bros in Los Angeles in 1969 as an offshoot of The Byrds, the concept was to meld all southern Americana music styles into what they called ‘Cosmic American Music.’ Through the years the membership changed often, but the group always stayed true to the concept.
They relocated to Nashville in the 1980s and dropped the “Flying” part of the name in an effort to be more commercial. It worked, as they had several chart records in that decade. Through the years the band has included members of The Eagles, The Byrds, Canned Heat, The Amazing Rhythm Aces, Firefall, and many other seminal 60s/70s bands. They are best known for songs like “Devil In Disguise”, “Sin City”, “Wheels”, “Wild Horses” and “Colorado”.
