Stars over La Veta

by Jennifer Parker

LA VETA- The Scrappy Ladies Quilt Guild is holding their annual show this Friday- Sunday during La Veta’s Art in the Park festival.  The showcase will be from 10-3 at the Community Center in La Veta and will highlight quilt pieces containing stars.

This talented group was started for the purpose of teaching others and perpetuating the art of quilting.  Many people have quilt pieces that were passed down through time, but may not know what to do with them.

The show will have a display giving the history of quilting, what goes into making a quilt, time involved, and the costs.  Full size quilts, wall hangings of all sizes, and boutique items will be for sale.  There will also be a showing of “Alzheimer’s” quilts, which will later be auctioned off on eBay, with proceeds going to Alzheimer’s research.

There will be door prizes and $1 raffle tickets sold for the chance to win a free quilt.  Come out and enjoy the beauty of these works of art and learn some history at the same time.
