Springer Chamber of Commerce honors Springer Auto

by Sherry Goodyear

SPRINGER — Though the weather is unseasonably warm, the Springer Chamber of Commerce is getting ready for its winter holiday activities. Coming up over the next few weeks it will be doing its annual Angel Tree, Santa in the Park, and Lighting Contest.

Reflecting over the past few weeks, the Springer Chamber is proud to have sponsored, or been part of, several successful activities, including the Fiesta Otoño held at the beginning of October, the Mariachi Cardinal concert held in the Luna auditorium a week later, and the Luna Community College Haunted House for Halloween. Now the group is gearing up for its winter activities.

During the week of Thanksgiving, the chamber will be setting up their annual Angel Tree at International Bank. The tree will hold cards that contain Christmas wish lists for each of the residents of Colfax Long-term Care Facility in Springer. People who take a card will pick something off the list to buy the resident, wrap it up and deliver it back to International Bank by the specified deadline, so that the residents can all enjoy a Christmas present. There is a $20 limit on these Angel Tree gifts.

In addition, on December 16, the Town of Springer will be holding its annual light parade, and earlier that same day, the chamber will be holding their “Santa in the Park” event from 2-4 pm held inside Luna Community College auditorium where people can take their children to meet Santa and tell him what they want for Christmas while simultaneously getting a goodie bag from the chamber as well as being treated to hot chocolate and biscochitos.

The chamber will be holding its annual Christmas lighting contest for both residents and businesses in Springer. Applications to be part of the contest will be available at City Hall, and the deadline to get them in is December 18.  Judging will be on December 20. Winners for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will earn $100, $75, and $50 respectively.

Following its regular meeting, chamber members and people from the town went to Springer Auto, which does tire repair, oil changes and sells parts, to celebrate their years of being in business with cake. Springer Auto’s hours are 8-12 and 1-5 Monday through Friday.
