OUR WORLD — While many of us are going through sports-coverage withdrawals, there seems to be good news coming out of our area high schools. While the baseball and track are shut down, Basketball All Conference teams were recently announced. Starting with the La Veta boys’ basketball team, Carson Miller made the First Team All-Conference. For the La Veta girls, Mary Goins made the first team, Emalee Ortibez was named to the second team and receiving honorable mention was Kendyl Eddleman.

Our Colfax County schools had the largest representation. From Raton High School, Anna Acosta was named to the girls All District and, for the boys, also from Raton, was Matthew Quartieri.

From Maxwell, the boys named to the 5A-All District Team included Kolten Riggs, Kaden Riggs, and Wesley Jeffery. Receiving honorable mention was Ben Goebel.

Named to 5A-All District from Springer were Jose Urquijo and Gabriel Garcia. Receiving Honorable Mention was Jeremiah Apodoca.

Cimarron had three athletes receiving honors, Cullen O’Neill and Hunter Whitten on 5A-All District, and honorable mention was given to Christian Estrada.

Among the area girls, from Springer, Kristen Gurule was chosen to 5A All District. Honorable mention honors were given to Valeria Balderama and Kamaro Shubert.
