Seen & Heard: Spring Coronation in the Shire

by Lady Unna Farulfsdottir (Jaye Sudar)

WALSENBURG — Bobbie Marcus, Vivien Price, Stephanie and Brian Holt, Jaye Sudar and Dan Harper of the Shire of Villaleon, a part of the Society for Creative Anachronisms (SCA), attended Spring Coronation in Canon city. The Shire of Aarquelle, (Pueblo) hosted the event held at The Holy Cross Abbey from May 13 to May 15. It was attended by over 400 members of the SCA. The coronation was to crown the new royalty of the Outlands, King Kolgrimr and Queen Danielle. The ceremony was held in the shade of the Monastery with visiting royalty, knights, ladies and the populace in attendance. Courts were held, awards presented, and tournaments for heavy weapons as well as rapiers were held. There were artisan guilds, vendors and food merchants present as well. The Shire ran a waffle stall as a money raiser to fund local events.

Bobbie Marcus was given an apprentice’s belt, and Vivian Price played period music. The Holts became part of the King and Queen’s guard and Jaye Sudar and Dan Harper were given Awards of Arms.

The shire holds meetings in Walsenburg on the third Wednesday of the month at the SPLD Library. Check our Facebook page, Shire of Villaleon, for times.1620 CLUB Seen and heard SCA Spring Coronation7
