Seen and Heard: It was Pinkies Up for Lady Viola’s 89th Birthday

A Victorian High Tea Party was held in honor of Lady Viola Maldonado in celebration of her 89th birthday on Saturday, February 10, 2018. The elegant tea was hosted by Viola’s daughters Tammy, Pearl, Brenda and Janelle, though all attendees joined in the splendor and spirit of the day.

The Tea was replete with lovely china, candelabras, traditional bunting, and flower arrangements of lavender, pink and white. In addition to a variety of teas, a full menu included handmade Norwegian Krum kaka filled with fruit and cream, shortbread sandwich cookies with ganache filling, finger sandwiches of carrot apple raisin and almond, chocolate covered strawberries, vegetable, meat, cheese and fruit displays, cherry jubilee, and a lovely layer cake in lavender and lace.

Guests dressed in grand Victorian attire and wore hats adorned with flowers, feathers, and jewels. Friends and family read poetry and shared lovely and humorous stories to Viola’s delight. Viola then expressed her love and gratefulness for the blessings of the day and her life thus far.

The festivities concluded with the traditional birthday song and a group photo to preserve the memory for all time. In attendance were back row: Austin Maldonado, Landen Crespin, and Kelan Crespin; Middle row: Brenda Maldonado, Vanessa Maldonado, Brianna Maldonado, Brenda Jo Maldonado, Marissa Maldonado, Georgia Davis and Maudie Maldonado; Front row: Tammy Maldonado holding Bambi, Ruth Major, Viola Maldonado, Janet Behringer, and Pearl Crespin. Janelle Maldonado-Saad also attended. Ken and Mahri Saad sent birthday greetings from Maryland. Children and grandchildren from Albuquerque were unable to travel to the tea but extended love and best wishes.
