Redskins explode in Aguilar, winning 59-13

AGUILAR — Saturday’s afternoon classic of football action was a 6-man class matchup of area teams, pitting Southwest Division top ranked La Veta Redskins against third place Aguilar Wildcats. In the end, the afternoon belonged to La Veta, as the Redskins dominated Aguilar from their opening drive. Eric Morgan began the day with a 38 yard connection to Gabe Bellah to inside the 5 yard line. Following a sack, Brayden Dobbs ran in from the 10 for the score and the PATY run was good. La Veta led 7-0 with less than two minutes taken off the clock and would score six total touchdowns in the quarter. A Morgan to Dobbs 5 yard touchdown pass with a failed PAT followed, then a 20 yard Trevor Warren to Gabe Bellah touchdown pass, and a Morgan to Dobbs 29 yard TD pass. Toward the end of the first quarter, Ty Warren broke loose for a 70-yard scramble for yet another score. The final score of the quarter came off a Morgan to Gabe Bellah 10 yard touchdown pass with a

good PAT run by Salem Bellah. Aguilar had one amazing play in the game, midway in the 1st when Anthony Rozell returned a kickoff for 70- yards and the score. After one it was La Veta 40-6. The second quarter saw only one score, a Salem Bellah 1 yard TD run and a run-in PAT. As the second half began, La Veta quickly scored off a Dobbs 11 yard run. On the next drive, Shem Bellah scored on a 5-yard run. By then, the Redskins led 59-7, thus triggering the 45 point mercy rule (6-man ball carries the 45 running clock rule). Aguilar would add one more score in the 4th quarter. The Redskins defense also ruled the day, forcing turnovers and large losses of coverage. La Veta forced 7 fumbles; Clayton Walton recovered two. There were also 5 sacks in the game; David Faulhaber and Hehr Haught each had two. Faulhaber also had 5 solo tackles and 4 assists, which lead the team. Dobbs had 4 touchdowns on the afternoon, two by air and two on the ground. He is the 6-man leader in the state in scoring after his performance last weekend. (See Area Briefs).
