LA VETA- RE-2 Superintendent Dave Seaney told Board members last night about the new teachers being added to the district this year. Jose Girgado, a native of Venezuela, will teach Spanish. Other new hires include Sandra Johnson for Jr./Sr. HS Science, Tim Kratt for sixth grade, and Nina Schneider for pre-school.
Seaney and staff have decided to pull together this year to cover the duties of the elementary principal. Seaney may look for a part-time principal to handle staff evaluations and school assessments. The Board will give Betty Trahern a retirement party to show her their regard.
The Board approved the contract for EMC to begin work on the heating and ventilation systems. This will start immediately but not be completed until next year. Work that is not completed at the start of the school year will resume during Christmas and Spring breaks.
The annual staff BBQ will be at 6 pm in the La Veta Park on Thursday, Aug. 14. Classes for students will begin on Aug. 20 and the next regular Board meeting will be on Aug. 26 at 6:30 pm.
