Obituary – Theresa Maria Hargrove

Theresa Maria Hargrove 10-15-1933 ~ 2-27-2014 Funeral services for Theresa Maria Hargrove were held Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 2 pm at the St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Okemah, OK. Interment followed at the Morse Cemetery north of Okemah. A Rosary service was held Monday, March 3rd at 7 pm at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Okemah. Theresa Maria Hargrove was born October 15, 1933 in Walsenburg, Colorado to Gil Vigil and Eva (Quintana) Vigil. She passed away, Thursday, February 27, 2014 in Okemah, OK at the age of 80. Theresa graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Walsenburg, Colorado and later graduated from St. Mary’s Nursing School in Pueblo, Colorado. She and Bobby A. Hargrove were married November 27, 1954 in Walsenburg, Colorado; he preceded her in death on December 4, 2011. Theresa worked many years as a licensed practical nurse in Okemah. She worked at the Okmulgee Memorial Hospital, Okfuskee Memorial Hospital and the Creek Nation Hospital. She also worked with Dr. Spickard, Dr. Charles Elliott and Dr. Noel Miller. Theresa was a caring and talented nurse, having helped numerous families and doctors during childbirth. She was a longtime and devoted member of the St. Teresa’s Catholic Church of Okemah and St. Teresa’s Altar Society. Theresa was very involved in the community, having helped organize the first St. Jude Fund Raiser in Okemah and the Okemah Girl Scouts. She was especially involved with Okemah Public Schools. Theresa was an avid supporter of Okemah Athletics and was involved with the Booster Club, the Band Booster Club and Okemah Little League. She was a loving and caring friend to many and will be missed by all who knew her. Also preceding her in death were her parents; one son, Robert Hargrove; one brother- in-law, Larry Hargrove; 5 brothers and 4 sisters. Survivors include her two sons, Steve Hargrove of Okemah and Richard Hargrove of Okemah; three daughters, Angela Grissom and husband Brian of Choctaw, Monica Hargrove and partner Stephanie of Broken Arrow and Eva Cox and husband Mike of Okemah; one brother, Arthur Vigil and wife Blondie of Walsenburg, Colorado; two sisters, Genevieve Atencio of Denver, Colorado and Bernice Espinosa of Pueblo, Colorado; one brother-in-law, Gary Hargrove and wife Debbie of Lindsey, Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Serving as active pallbearers were Dennis Lucas, Michael Cox, Cole Grissom, Russell Alsover, Timothy Hargrove, Kyle Hunter, Chris Tate, Josh Bright and Dustin Potts. Honorary bearers included Cookie Bridgeford, Shirley Been, Jane Curry and Vickie Ned. Viewing and visitation were on Saturday, March 1, 2014, from 3 to 8 pm, Sunday, 12 to 8 pm and Monday, 8:30 am to 8 pm at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Okemah. Services were under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah and officiated by Father Peter Phung. Online condolences may be made at www.ParksBrothersFuneralHome.com.
