HOEHNE- Samuel Tesitor Taylor Jr. died peacefully at his home in Hoehne on June 19th, 2008. Sam was born in Canon City on September 22, 1940 to Sam and Nina Taylor of Walsenburg where Sam Jr. was raised. In 1962, Sam left home and enlisted in the Marine Corps.
Sam’s true passion in life was creating art on paper, painting canvas, printing digital images, photogravures and sculpting. The large metal sculpture entitled, “When your Number’s Up,” located at Heritage Park was donated by Sam to honor all miners who were lost underground with his numbered tokens. Sam loved his hometown and loved to share his many stories about this region.
For the past 30 years, Sam and Connie lived in New Mexico where they produced art, sheep and wool. Sam returned “home” 7 months ago.
Sam is survived by his wife Connie, his children Gayle Lasater, Kristina Ryan, Cheri Foster and Sam Taylor, his Uncle Jim Tesitor, his grandchildren Amanda Vargas, Desirae Kraft, Candace Lasater, Savannah Ryan and Mark Lasater, 6 great grandchildren and several Tesitor cousins. No services are planned at this time.
