RoseAnn Vigil 10-13-1933 ~ 1-13-2013 RoseAnn Vigil, 80, lifelong resident of Walsenburg, CO, passed away on January 13th, 2014. She was born in Walsenburg on October 13th, 1933, to the late Joe J. and Sally (Celestina Espinoza) Martinez. RoseAnn attended nursing school prior to marrying her loving husband of 58 years, Dave J. Vigil. She is survived by her six children, Michael (Shirley) Vigil, Mary Vigil, Laura Lucero, David Vigil, Barbara (Ken) Sandoval, and Debra (Donald) Lopez; 15 grandchildren, Ricardo, Jessica, Brandon, Roberto, Traci, Teresa, David, Donnie, Aimee Jo, Paul, Melissa, Cody, Katie, Cassandra, and Sara; and 17 great-grandchildren. RoseAnn is also survived by her three sisters and two brothers, Juanita (Tony) Lucero, Ruby (Dave) Casados, Lena (Ben) Martinez, Fred (Theresa) Martinez, and David (Josephine) Martinez. She was preceded in death by her brother, Alex Martinez and sister, Patricia (Xavier) Sandoval. RoseAnn was a stay- at-home mom until 1971 when she started her career as a Bilingual Teacher’s Aide at St. Mary School. She became a Special Needs Teacher’s Aide at Gardner School and then at Walsenburg Middle School until her retirement in 2004. She was very active as a volunteer with her daughters as their Girl Scout Leader and in the Catholic community as a member of the Parish Council, a Eucharistic Minister, filled in as needed at the Rectory for the receptionist and with Dave, counseling and preparing engaged couples for the sacrament of marriage. Even with her busy schedule, RoseAnn managed to find time to graduate with an Associate’s Degree from Trinidad State Junior College. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, who founded Mother’s Day, and was honored as a Mother Eagle in 2013. RoseAnn loved dancing with her husband, Dave, and getting many bunches of roses from him. They both believed in their grandchildren’s continuing education and gave their ongoing support and assistance to them. RoseAnn also loved visiting with friends, their yearly family reunions in Laughlin, NV, watching the Nuggets, baking, cooking, reading, and having all of her family with her at holiday meals at their home. RoseAnn and Dave loved each other and their family very much. Services for RoseAnn will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church. Rosary will be at 7pm on Friday, January 17th, and Funeral Mass will be at 10 am, Saturday, January 18th with graveside service to follow at St. Mary’s North Cemetery.
