Obituary Joseph Filbert De Herrera

Joseph Filbert De Herrera 7-21-1943 ~ 2-24-2015 Joseph Filbert De Herrera, 71, of Walsenburg, went to be with the Lord on February 24, 2015 in Pueblo, CO. He was born on July 21, 1943 in Aguilar, CO, the son of Joseph Jesus De Herrera and Margaret Apodaca. Joseph was raised by his grandparents, Francisco and Maria Lucia Herrera in Aguilar and Trinidad until the age of 10. He then returned to live with his parents on the Sporleder Ranch in Mauricio Canyon and attended the two room school house in Trujillo Creek, CO. At the age of 12, he moved with his family to Rye, CO. He began working with his dad in the sawmills, and attended school until the age of 18. He worked in the sawmills until the age of 25, and then started digging trees and cutting wood. On June 29, 1974, in Walsenburg, CO, he married the love of his life, Margaret Garcia. and became the proud father of four children. Joseph spent his life doing what he loved; playing music, being in the mountains

hiking, and fishing, and carpentry. He was preceded in death by his son Joseph (1974); parents (1987 and 1989); brother, Epifanio (1960); and sisters, Rose (2000) and Lucy (2003). He is survived by Margaret, his wife of 40 years, children Joey (Mindy) Garcia, Natalie (Edward) Montiel, Filbert (Jolene) De Herrera, and James (Samantha) De Herrera; by granchildren Donovan, Brandon, Amado, Mariah, Jarron, Alexis, Berlin, James, Grant, Jesse, Marley, Zack, Desi, and Ethan; by sisters Vera, Dora, Teresa, Frances, and Carol; and by brothers Johnny and Barney. Joseph was a very humble and peaceful man who always put his family’s and friends’ needs before his own. He was very special in the hearts of many and will be greatly missed. Joseph was cremated as his request.
