Obituary- John Giro

    John Gerald Giro, born July 4, 1933 in Walsenburg, passed away on July 12, 2008 in Van Buren, Arkansas.  He was a graduate of Huerfano County High School, in Walsenburg, and served in the United States Air Force.  He was awarded the Purple Heart during the Korean War.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma; his father, Paul Giro; mother, Alice Giro, and brother, Donald Giro.  He is survived by his son, Paul J. Giro (Arthur Smith, life partner) of Shreveport, LA; daughter, Shiela (Frank) Halbur, Shreveport, LA; daughter, Lisa (Mike) Harrington, Shreveport, LA; granddaughters, Tiffany Moorehead, Kimberly Harrington and Amber Halbur and grandson, Matthew Harrington, all of Shreveport, LA.  He is also survived by his sisters, Thelma (Dan) Ramsey, Valrico, FL and Sharon (Don) Steigerwald, Valrico, FL and sister-in-law, Alice M. Giro of Walsenburg, numerous nieces and nephews, including Deborah (Jay) Bevsek of Walsenburg and John R. Giro of Pueblo. Graveside services with fill military honors were held on Tuesday July 15, 2008 under the direction of Ocker-Putman funeral home of Van Buren, AR.  Internment at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, AR.
