Obituary- Ivan John Griego

Ivan John Griego Sunrise: 12/26/1937 Sunset: 12/22/2014 Ivan was preceded in death by both parents, Daniel and Eutilia Griego; two brothers, Boudy and Christy Griego; four sisters, Mildred, Mary, Linda and Mollie. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Ernestine; three sons, Robert (Nancy) Griego, Nick Griego, Michael (Loretta) Griego; one daughter Pamela (Monty) Griego; five grandchildren, Alicia, Chelsea, Keith, Olivia, and Nicholas; and one great-grandchild Eliana Griego. He is also survived by five sisters, Connie Manzanares, Judy Galvan, Lily Quintana, Percilla Roybal, Josie (Sonny) Martinez; one brother, Daniel (Ruth) Griego; one special brother-in-law Richard Charlifue, and countless nieces, nephews and cousins. After high school, Ivan enlisted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for a period of time. After returning home, Ivan met and fell in love with his wife Ernestine, and began to build a beautiful life together. He then worked with the U.S. Forestry Department for many years until he started with the Huerfano County Road and Bridge Crew in La Veta, CO until his retirement. Ivan was always a quiet man who enjoyed

being with family and his grandchildren. He loved his Denver Broncos and also enjoyed being outdoors camping and fishing. He was always caring and helpful to many of the elderly folks around Walsenburg, accomplishing many of the odd jobs and tasks that were asked of him. Ivan was a member of the Full Gospel Church in Walsenburg and worshipped his Lord in his own quiet way. He will never be forgotten, missed always, and is loved endlessly by so many. The family would like to thanks all those who came to pay respects and celebrate the life of Ivan John Griego. A special thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center and the veterans home, Sangre de Cristo Hospice, and Parkview Medical Center. Also, thanks again to the caring people at Johnson’s Funeral Home.
