Obituary Ernest “Ernie” Marck

Ernest “Ernie” Marck 2-6-1923 ~ 1-16-2015 Ernest “Ernie” Marck was born on February 6, 1923 in Walsenburg, Colorado to Pio and Rosana Marck. Ernie was one of 10 children, to include five brothers and four sisters. All of his brothers: Adolph Martinez, Albert, Louie, Pete, and Artie preceded Ernie in death, as did his sister Viola Vigil. Ernie is survived by his sisters Ruth Garza, Dorothy Ocana and Ruthann Suazo (of Walsenburg). Ernie grew up in Walsenburg where he attended Huerfano County High School and graduated in 1943. Ernie joined the United States Navy on June 28, 1943, during World War II, and he became a US Navy SeaBee. Ernie rose to Boatswain’s Mate Second Class with the Navy. During his service, Ernie earned the “Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal” and the “World War II Victory Medal”. Ernie honorably discharged from the Navy on February 23, 1946. Following his naval service, Ernie returned home to Walsenburg; where he soon met Elsie Atencio. Elsie was born on August 5, 1924 in Los Pinos, New Mexico. Ernie and Elsie married in 1946,

and they eventually settled in Denver, Colorado, a short while later. Ernie and Elsie then raised their three children: Patricia Alderete, Ernest Edward, and Jonathan. On December 23, 1982 Elsie passed away at their Denver home. Ernie then retired from Gates Rubber Company in February of 1985 after 35 years of service. Next, in 1997, Ernie returned to Walsenburg to enjoy his retirement years, where he remained until 2013. It was then, on January 16, 2015, that Ernie peacefully passed away in Denver after 91 years of life. Ernie’s visitation will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2015 from 4 to 7 pm. Ernie’s funeral services are on January 23, 2015 at 10 am. The visitation and funeral services are both at Olinger Chapel Hill located at 6601 S. Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121, 303-771-3960.
