Museum of Friends Courthouse Show: Dean Fleming

LIBRE- Dean Fleming is this week’s featured artist from the Museum of Friends Courthouse Show.  Fleming was born in Santa Monica, California and came here from NYC 40 years ago.  He says, “Bill and Jeannette  Thach, realtors, brought us up to the valley saying Huerfano needed more artists!  We bought the land (360 acres) from Tony Pando for $35 an acre.

I can only hope my art is enhanced by living here.  I had a vision in the City of the perfect studio, which was that it would be in the wilderness, be extremely beautiful & be surrounded by friends.  Art is inseparable from the environment… Libre was built as a community of artists and still is.  My art is about freedom.”

Next week is your last chance to see the entire courthouse exhibit.  Then make a point of visiting the Museum of Friends itself, located above Duckwalls at 6th and Main in Walsenburg.  Hours are Monday through Thursday 3 to 5 and Saturday noon to 5, or call 719-738-2858 to book a tour. www.museumoffriends.org.
