FT COLLINS— The Colorado Science and Engineering Fair (CSEF) was held this past weekend in at the Hilton in Fort Collins. Two hundred and eighty students in grades 6-12 from around the state competed at the fair in a wide variety of disciplines. Four students from La Veta attended the fair- Tucker Shrout, Vinny Ozzello, Cassandra Blew, and Rachelle Andreatta. Shrout and Ozzello, both 10th graders, had a team project “ Stabilizing the Quality of Harvested Produce Through the Introduction of Light and Dark Cycles.” The duo received a Grand Award- 3rd Place in Plant Science. Blew, a 7th grader, had a project in Math/Computer Sciences. Her project, “Amazing Robots 2: Color Code” won an Honorable Mention in the Grand Awards category. Andreatta, an 8th grader, entered a project in Earth and Space Science. Her project “Predicting the Weather” received a Special Award from the American Meteorological Society for excellence in atmospheric science research. Hearty congratulations to the students and thanks to La Veta School for its continual support in student science fair endeavors. The students are under the direction of Pat Keeling, who has been the sponsor of La Veta’s science fair teams for 10 years. Keeling is assisted by Shelley Rae Musilli Kern.
