John Mall walkout

About 85% of Walsenburg’s John Mall High School students took part Wednesday in the national protest against school violence, which saw tens of thousands of students walk out of their schools across the country.

At John Mall High School the walk out was planned and school administration combined the expected walk out with a fire drill, according to Principal Gunny Pagnotta. The protest was suggested by JMHS Student Council President Alexander ‘Max’ Moll and supported by the student council. Pagnotta told the World Journal.

The 17-minute walkout nationwide and at JMHS was a tribute to the 17 victims who were fatally shot at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, last month. Pagnotta said the local protest was staged to protest all violence in schools. About 30 JMHS students left the school building in advance of the fire drill which sounded at 10:02 am.
