WALSENBURG — The John Mall Panthers won a nail biter at home Friday night. The Panthers beat Swallows Charter Academy by a score of 69-64. The first half was back and forth with both teams putting on a show. A half court buzzer beater at the half by Alejandro Morales put the Panthers up by 6. Both teams came out fired up for the second half. The Panthers found themselves down in the 4th quarter but a free throw by senior Jayson Santistevan tied the game. On the next possession down senior Jeremiah Vigil made a strong drive up the lane sinking the bucket to give the Panthers back the lead. A last minute steal and put up by Morales sealed the deal and the Panthers were able to pull off the win. Santistevan lead the team with 26 points and 15 rebounds. Senior Troy Aguirre added 16 points and 6 rebounds. Vigil and Morales added 9 each, S. Reyna had 5 and P. Valdez had 4.
The Panthers lost 62-39 in Crowley County on Saturday when early foul trouble and a big Charger team proved to be too much. Scoring for the Panthers were J.Santistevan and T.Aguirre with 9 each, S. Reyna with 8, A. Morales with 7, J.Vigil and P. Valdez added 3. Vigil was credited with 4 assists and 3 steals. E. Sandoval had 1 block
