Griego took a 1-0 lead into the third when he forced an escape late in the second to take the narrow lead. Burns, countered in the third with an escape of his own as both men battled upright for over 4:40 minutes. The first reversal occurred when Burns from the bottom position reversed the hold. He lost the opening bout to Nolan Egging (Hotchkiss) by pin in 1:25 Crump was taken off his feet early, and in the battle of the big men, it is hard to recover and get out of a pinning situation. Facing elimination, Crump faced Justin Tucker of Swink and won a 3-0 decision. Starting the second period, Crump got Tucker on his belly and worked him over, scoring three for the near pin as the period ended. The final two minutes were upright with no points being scored, giving Crump the chance to move on. However, he was eliminated by Ben McCaffrey (Ellicott), the #4 seed by pin fall in 1:15.

In his win or go home match against Esquiel Raso of Rocky Ford, the two fought tough in the first period with each scoring takedowns, reversals and escapes.
