James Edward Britt

James Edward Britt, 78, of Walsenburg, born on April, 30, 1938 in Del Carbon, CO, died May 7, 2016 in Taos, NM.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Mae Britt; parents, Joseph and Eulalia Bustos Britt; a brother, Joseph Britt, a sister, Mary Mae DeHerrera, and son-in-law, Andres Quintero.
He is survived by his children, Donald (Rose) Britt, Klamath Falls, OR; Kirsten (Tanquillino) Sandoval, Walsenburg, CO; Pauline Britt, Barstow, CA; Wanda (Richard) Ortiz, Walsenburg, CO; his companion, Millie Lucero, Walsenburg, CO; 12 grandchildren, Adam, Crystal, Amanda, Cody, Andrew, Angelo, Tiffany, Daniel, Sarina, Jessica, Jonathan and Sara; 22 great grandchildren, a brother-in-law, Oress DeHerrera; life time friends, Don Romero and Jimmy Medina; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Jim lived his early years in North Veta where he attended school, then moved to Walsenburg and attended high school at St. Mary’s. He spent 30 years in Barstow, CA where he attended Junior College, receiving his Associates of Arts and Business Administration degrees. He later moving back to Walsenburg.
He married Lena Mae Holman on December 3, 1958 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corp, serving from 1956 to 1958. He received his basic training in San Diego, CA and Camp Pendelton in Oceanside, CA and was inducted on September 20, 1956. He was stationed in Barstow, CA at a Marine Corp Supply Center.
Jim worked at the Marine Corp Supply Depot from 1966 to 1982, worked for the Huerfano Count sheriff’s Department Office from 1982 to 1983, and the Pueblo Army (Chemical) Depot from 1983 , retiring in 1993. He served on the Walsenburg City Council on Nov. 1983 to 1987, was a life time member of the Knights of Columbus since 1973, and was a Eucharistic Member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #145 since Dec. 27, 1994.
Jim loved the Denver Broncos, and taking trips to Blackhawk and Cripple Creek, CO, and Taos and Espanola, NM. He enjoyed watching western movies and going to the movies. He also enjoyed car shows and bowling. You were never a stranger with Jim once he started talking to you.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 13 from 11am to 4pm at Boies Ortega Funeral Home. A rosary will be held on Friday, May 13 at 6 pm and the Funeral Mass will be at 10 am Saturday May 14, both at St. Mary Catholic Church in Walsenburg, CO.
