WALSENBURG — The Huerfano County Republican Committee held their regular meeting at the La Plaza on January 9th. Chair Debi Sporleder led the group in an Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance and called the meeting to order.
Sporleder talked about important upcoming events and that the precinct caucus will be on Tuesday, March 6. This is key because caucus attendees choose precinct captains and delegates to the county assembly. It is not possible to become a state delegate without having first being elected as a county delegate. Sporleder said the county level is when your vote really counts as this is where you can propose changes to the national Republican Party platform.
The county assembly is on March 13 where attendees vote on delegates to the state assembly and convention which will be on Saturday, April 14, at CU Boulder Coors Event Center. Delegates get to vote on a variety of issues at the state assembly. This is where your voice can really be heard. Volunteers are needed to help with the caucuses and to serve on a registration of credentials committee. We also need precinct leaders and someone to post a sign two weeks before March 6th. There was discussion about nominating candidates for available county positions and anyone interested should contact Debi Sporleder at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Marcy Freeburg says she’s willing to give a training course on how to run caucuses and their importance. See her article on page 14.
