Hoehne Lady Farmers fall in regional finals

LIMON — The Hoehne Lady Farmers (12-12) for the second year in a row had their season ended in regionals, defeated by the Limon Lady Badgers (22-1) last Friday night in Limon 61-37. The Lady Farmers last season had lost to Limon in overtime 48-41 in regionals.

Hoehne played a very good first half against #5 seed Limon heading into next weekend’s Colorado Class 1A State Girls Basketball Elite 8. Trailing by one at the end of the first quarter, Hoehne had the lead three times in the first quarter. Limon took the lead for good early in the second quarter at 8-11. The Lady Farmers got to within three points late in second quarter at 17-20, but Limon’s girls went on an 8-2 run just before the half to take the 21-28 lead. Limon out scored Hoehne 19-9 in the third quarter which propelled them to the 61-37 win.

Senior forward Shaelyn Walton (5’8”) who averaged 19.1 points per game in 2017-2018, ended her career with the Lady Farmers, having played in 77 games and averaged 13.5 points per game for her high school basketball career. She scored a total of 1060 points and averaged 5.2 rebounds per game.

Syerra Trujillo, Jaylyn Tortorelli and Jessalyn Guzzo played their final games as Lady Farmers and will graduate this spring. Junior Kamryn Baca-Cordova who averaged 7.5 points per game and almost two steals per game, along with sophomore Averie Navarette who averaged 6.0 points per game will lead a young team next season.
