High winds wreak havoc across region

First responders from across the Spanish Peaks region remained busy Friday as high winds whipped through the area toppling semi-tractor trailers and other high profile and lighter vehicles.

The Colorado Department of Transportation had posted high wind warnings and travel restriction for north and southbound Interstate 25 from just south of Pueblo to the Colorado / New Mexico border. Colorado State Patrol Troopers, Huerfano Sheriff’s Deputies, SPRHC EMTs and private tow firms worked most of the day assisting at approximately six traffic mishap sites in Huerfano and Las Animas counties. No serious injuries were reported. The semi-tractor trailer on its side northbound near exit 52 was photographed by Eric Mullens. Another truck flipped over and slid into a highway signpost. The driver was only slightly injured.
