Government leaders, business people and others seek hospital director positions in May

 by Eric Mullens

HUERFANO — Two of the top government officials in Huerfano County, business owners, two incumbents and a large slate of other candidates round out the field for the upcoming Huerfano County Hospital District Board of Directors election in May.

This is the largest number of candidates for the three open hospital board director positions seen in many years.

The candidates for the mail in ballot election are: Walsenburg City Administrator James Toth, Huerfano County Administrator John Galusha, incumbent directors Dr. Paul Coe and Ron Nielsen, Lola Spradley, Alexander Lukens, Leonard Bellah, Doris Fulkerson, Nicholas Vigil, David Rogers, Richard Goodwin, and Travis Nelson.

All of the candidates have been asked by the World Journal to provide some biographical information and the reasons they are seeking a hospital board director position for a candidate profile article planned for publication at the end of this month or in early April.

The board positions open in this year’s election are those currently held by Coe and Nielsen and the position held by Al Tucker, who is term-limited.

Qualified, registered voters throughout Huerfano County will receive ballots in the mail. All hospital board positions are elected ‘at-large’.
