Gardner School to hold lottery

by Janet Kinniry

GARDNER — Gardner Valley School will hold its first enrollment lottery on April 5, 2020 , 2 pm, at the Eagles Hall, 614 Main Street in Walsenburg. Gardner Valley School is a free public charter school that will open in August 2020. The school accepts all students from pre-school to eighth grade from anywhere in Huerfano and Custer Counties. The school will operate on a four-day week, like all other district schools. The Gardner Valley School will provide bus service from Walsenburg and Gardner.

If there are more students who wish to enroll than there are spaces, the school will choose students by lottery. Approximately 75 students have submitted intent to enroll forms. The school can accept 105 students. Any parent/guardian who wishes a child’s name to be entered in the enrollment lottery can call or text Janet Kinniry (719 289 8889) by close of business on April 4, 2020. Participation in the lottery is only a statement of interest, not a commitment to enroll. The lottery will be public. Everyone is welcome to attend the lottery, however, attendance is not necessary to be placed in the lottery. Parents may still enroll their students in the Gardner Valley School after the lottery if there is room at the school.
