Help it happen… bid on holiday getaways to Scotland, New England, Chicago, or Hawaii through online silent auction
by David Wise
President, Fox Theatre Walsenburg
WALSENBURG — It might not look like a lot is happening at the Fox Theatre, however, looks are deceiving. The board has been doing a lot of organizational housekeeping. The board executed a new lease with the county for a 40-year term, which was the last requirement to submitting our State of Colorado Historic Preservation Tax Credit Application, currently under review. These credits will greatly facilitate a substantial portion of the rehabilitation of the theatre infrastructure improving the quality of our patron’s theatre experience, whether it be a movie, music, or comedy. Additionally, the board has developed and adopted the following: board manual, articles of incorporation, by-laws, operations manual, and we still must finish creating a budget, and marketing and business plans.
In addition to acquiring the new laser project and re-opening, we have also been focusing on the theatre exterior, by repairing the marquee and repainting the east façade. Gordon Sign Company from Denver surveyed the marquee after the hail damage from this past spring, and have provided some concept murals for the theater.
To achieve these short-term objectives, we are presenting Brew Ha Ha on September 16. The Fox Theater is hosting a beer & cider tasting with hors d’ oeuvres provided by La Plaza from 6 to 8 pm. Meghan De Ponceau will be emceeing the comedy event from 8:30 to 10 pm. Concluding the evening is the silent action for holiday getaways. Up for bid are three sport-themed holidays including the 2018 U.S. and British Golf Opens and a Chicago Wrigley Field rooftop experience.
In addition to these three trips, we have three east coast trips to Maine, Boston, or Newport, Rhode Island where you can also experience a two-hours hands on experience aboard of one of the America’s Cup yachts.
The final trip is to Hawaii with airfare included. To view the trips and bid on them prior to Brew Ha Ha, visit www.foxtheatrewalsenburg.org to view full trip descriptions.
