TRINIDAD — An art show opening on April 8th at Gallery Main in Trinidad features the works of Alan Petersen, a water colorist, and his wife Lois Petersen who works in pastels and oils. Alan is originally from Nebraska and was a prominent architect in Denver before retiring and moving to Trinidad. He moved to Trinidad because of his love for its architecture and brick streets. Alan discovered his talent as an artist in his 70’s and he and his wife opened “The Original Townsight Gallery” on Elm Street in Trinidad.

Lois Petersen is a native Trinidadian who found her love of art atnine years old when she took private art lessons from a local doctor’s wife. She studied art at Colorado State University and earned her education degree. Lois taught art to students from kindergarten through twelfth grades and says, “I taught art at every school in Trinidad.” She has taught adult art painting classes at Trinidad State Junior College and retired ten years ago. Now she travels to places like the San Luis Valley and Kearney, Nebraska to take in the beauty of migrating cranes and capture their elegance and grace in her artwork. When she works plein air (in the outdoors), she prefers using pastels for their convenience and the fact that she doesn’t have to travel with a wet canvas.

Cliff Dvorak, Lois’s son, also an artist, will be showing his work at the gallery as well. He incorporates turquoise mined at Cripple Creek, silver, and found objects into unique, one-of-a-kind jewelry. Cliff also creates hummingbird feeders from antique bottles, a variety of found objects, and an artistic wire wrap technique that turns them into hanging art. He is also a potter.

This show runs April 8 through 30 at Gallery Main in Trinidad, 130 E. Main Street; Tuesday – Friday 10-4 pm and Saturday 10-2 pm. Go to www.trinidadareaarts co.wix.com or call 719-846-1441 for more information.
