Claim Arkansas Valley 8-Man Football League title after McClave forfeit

WILEY — On the road Friday, the #3 ranked Hoehne Farmers (7-1)(5-0) at last clinched a share of the Arkansas Valley Class 1A 8-Man with a 54-8 win over the Wiley Bobcats behind 438-yards rushing and a defense that caused four Wiley turnovers.
This was their seventh win in a row since Hoehne fell to three time defending 8-Man State Football Champion Sedgwick County in the opening weekend of the 2018 grid-iron season.
Hoehne jumped out to a 24-0 first quarter lead and never looked back. “It was their last game of the season. They don’t play this weekend, so they gave it a good shot. They played hard against us.” Farmer head coach Gabe Dasko said, adding, “Now we have to clean some things up to get ready for the playoffs. We’ll know Sunday who we play in the first round of the playoffs. We just have to keep working hard to get better. We have one more game to figure it all out.”
Hoehne played their starters for the first quarter, then in the second quarter their second stringers came in. Sophomore Dario Orozco found the end-zome two times. Orozco rushed for 108-yards on just five carries. Senior Trystan Moltrer scored three times on just six rushes for 115-yards. Senior Kyle Rowe had 102 yards on five carries and scored one TD. Federico Orozco had a touchdown catch for a score.
The Farmer defense once again played a solid game. The “D” had two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. F. Orozco, in his final regular season high school football game, had 10 total tackles (eight solo), D. Orozco added six tackles, Rowe had eight solo tackles and a quarterback sack. Sophomore Robert Walter added eight tackles and had an interception. “We played well against Wiley,” Rowe commented.
“We played well as a team. We wanted to play well in the first half on both sides of the ball and we did. They had a pretty good running back and we keyed on him and held him down. They were scoreless until our JV went in, but our younger guys played well, too. We had to win the league title and we did. Now we have to play just as well against McClave and treat it like we do in practice. We’ll work at it and get ready for the playoffs.”
Update:
Hoehne ran 48 total plays, had 12 first downs, and three penalties for 3-yards.
The World Journal has learned that the Hoehne Farmers’ home game this coming Friday night, October 25 against McClave (3-6)(2-4) has been cancelled as McClave will have to forfeit the game.
With the win, the Farmers go unbeaten in league play and will win the Colorado Class 1A 8-Man Arkansas Valley Football League title.
