GARDNER — Spring has sprung, and everyone at Gardner School has been super busy. We have completed the third quarter and begun the fourth. Teachers and students hosted student led parent teacher conferences last Thursday. During student led conferences, students were granted the opportunity to take responsibility for their learning, classroom success, and goals.
Students were also recognized for third quarter honor roll and perfect attendance. Third Quarter Honor roll recipients were as follows: Hannah Cordova, Al Boday, Ciera Padilla, Isabella Rivera, Derek Mathason, Brianna Pacheco, Kelsie Aguirre, Aaliyah Gile, Evie Padilla, Rebecca Younger, Bernard Espinoza, Marcus Medina, Kimberly Padilla, Haylea Perrino, Jayden Barony, and Jesslyn Trujillo.
In addition, Hannah Cordova, Rebecca Younger, Sofia Crosson, Cole Cordova, Nino Cisneros, Sacoya Jardine, and Jason Jardine received honors for perfect attendance for the third quarter.
PARCC testing began this week, and will continue through the month of April. Good luck students. All are doing their very best.
All of the students at Gardner School have contributed to the cause in raising funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. School Nurse, Tracy Younger is heading the project and has organized some fun activities, which are proving successful in raking in the cash.
Last week, she hosted an open Gym on Wednesday, where all students had the opportunity to stay after school for a fee of three dollars. All proceeds went to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).
On Wednesday, April 6, students dressed up and teachers dressed down. For a quarter students and teachers voted for their favorite dress up and/or dressed down individual. We’ll let you know the winners in next week’s article. All funds will benefit the LLS cause.
Last week, the entire school participated in a lock down drill orchestrated by the Huerfano RE-1, Huerfano County Sherriff’s department, and the Walsenburg Police Department. The school resource officer, Ron Martinez, and Sergeant John Salazar reported that the drill was a success.
Track is well underway. Twelve students are participating in track, and Kevin Crosson and Heather Gonzales are coaching. The Falcons will attend their first rack meet on April 14 in Primero.
The garden club has been growing numerous plants, but the tomato plants seem to really be taking off. They have so many, they are running out of the room in the greenhouse.
So, if you are interested in buying a tomato plant or two, stop by the school, call the office, or send money with a student. Plants can be purchased for three dollars or two for five. All money procured through plant sales will be put right back into the green house.
