Drive-by shooting in Trinidad Monday evening

One injured, two arrested

TRINIDAD — A drive by shooting that occurred on Monday, March 12, in Trinidad left one local man injured. Two suspects are in custody.

Jeremy Vigil, 30 and Denise Fransua, 49, were both taken into custody by the Trinidad Police Department and booked at the Las Animas County Jail Monday night for their alleged involvement in the shooting.

According to reports, the Trinidad Police Department was called around 5:30 pm on Monday to the 700 block of North Commercial Street, where one man had been shot. The report continues that officers obtained a description of the vehicle used by reviewing surveillance camera footage from one of the nearby business. The security images show a light-colored Jeep drive up to two individuals who were walking on the sidewalk. The video allegedly shows multiple shots being fired from the Jeep at the two individuals walking.

After a tip was called in, the police located the Jeep allegedly involved in the shooting at 307 Jackson Street. A search warrant was obtained and the arrests were made.

A man who has not been identified publicly was injured and taken to Mt. San Rafael Hospital in Trinidad, were as of Tuesday he was listed in stable condition. The other individual was not taken in and is not believed to have been injured.

Vigil is facing multiple charges, including: possession of a weapon by a previous offender a class 4 felony, contributing to the delinquency of a minor a class 4 felony, possession of a controlled substance a class 4 drug felony unlawful distribution/ manufacturing/ dispensing or sale of a controlled substance a class 2 felony, obstructing a Peace Officer and Resisting Arrest both Class 2 Misdemeanor, with other additional charges that are pending. Fransua was being held on an outstanding warrant from El Paso County in Colorado.
