Drive-by lunches

Huerfano RE-1’s breakfast and lunch program program for area children started up this week as classes resumed, although all online per state COVID-19 requirements for social distancing. Each sack contains two lunches and two breakfasts. Above: Peakview School music teacher Jenna Inscho handed out two days worth of sack lunches and breakfasts to RE-1 students on Tuesday in the alley between Peakview and John Mall High School. Students in the Gardner area can receive their meals at the Gardner School parking lot. Distribution is on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 11 am to 12 noon. Children need to be present for pickup in the vehicle the first time, and in subsequent visits a card showing the number of children in that household needing meals may be shown to receive the food. All children, age 0 to 18, are eligible, whether they are enrolled at RE-1, homeschooled, or are enrolled at GOAL Academy. A meals survey is available on the Huerfano RE-1 website to help the district know how much food to order, go to https://forms.gle/wHn5gFyqLvoW7YAGA to fill it out. Photo by Brian Orr.
