RATON — Dona Anna Apartments, 1450 South State Street in Raton, was developed and operates with federal housing financing, utilizing two federal housing programs, Section 515 and Rural Development Rental Assistance to make rent affordable to lower income tenants.
The property was constructed using the USDA Rural Development Section 515 Rural Rental Housing Program. To provide adequate housing in rural areas, this program provides low interest rates with longer amortization periods for the building of rental housing.
Dona Anna Apartments is a community containing a mix of 48 two-bedroom and one three-bedroom assisted apartments for rent with 94% of the units receiving rental assistance.
Dona Anna Apartments provides USDA Rural Development Rental Assistance subsidies to renters. This rental subsidy, available only to USDA Section 515 properties, allows the renter to pay 30% of his or her income for rent while the subsidy pays the difference.
To qualify, a renter must earn 50% or less of the Area Median Income. There is no minimum rent at this property for residents receiving a rent subsidy.
