Local non-profit vying to win one of several $20,000 and $10,000 grants from the Certified Organic Seed and Food Company

WALSENBURG — District ONE a 501(c)3 non profit organization, has entered the Seeds of Change® Grant Program and is asking the community to get out and vote for their application. The grants will be awarded to organizations that help support sustainable, community-based gardening and farming programs that focus on teaching people about the food they eat and how it’s grown. Earlier this month, the Seeds of Change® Grant Program accepted hundreds of applications from organizations and schools across the country. District ONE submitted an application highlighting how they would use the grant to grow their John Mall High School Farm to School program. From now through April 18, the community can get out the vote and support local gardening and farming programs by visiting www.seedsofchangegrant.com/TheGallery.aspx, and voting once per day for John Mall High School Farm to School Program. You can search “Walsenburg” in The Gallery to quickly locate District ONE’s submission. After voting closes on April 18, the top 50 organizations with the most votes will move on to the final judging phase. Around May 3, Seeds of Change® will announce 24 grant recipients: 12 school garden recipients and 12 community garden recipients. Of these grant recipients, (2) two school gardens and two (2) community gardens will receive $20,000 and ten (10) school gardens and ten (10) community gardens will receive $10,000. Residents can also follow the conversation on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter using #SeedsofChangeGrant.
