David Mockmore

David Edward Mockmore, 80, was born May 15, 1937 and he passed away peacefully on January 31, 2018.

He was raised in Walsenburg and after high school he was a DJ for local radio station K.F.L.J.

In 1959 he received a draft letter and chose to serve in the US Air Force. He served most of his time on the Aleutian Islands off the coast of Alaska listening to and intercepting Morse code used by the Russians and also served some time in Japan.

After the service, he returned to Walsenburg, where he held a couple of odd jobs until he interviewed with Montgomery Ward. In the early 1980’s, after working and travelling for 18 years as a district manager for Montgomery Ward, he moved his family back to Walsenburg.

It was there where he became a passionate member of the community where he strived to always make it a better place to work and live. He served as a board member and president of the Chamber of Commerce, on the board of Downtown Revitalization, Economic Development, Council of Governments, a member of City Council, and a board member and president of the school board where he worked hard to get Peakview School and the new football and track field built. He was the Executive Director of the Housing Authority for 27 years before retiring in 2012.

David was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Cora Mockmore; and is survived by his loving children Brian and Wendy Mockmore.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Joni Fair Hospice House in Pueblo. Condolences can be sent to the family at 577 S. Alaric Dr. Pueblo West, CO 81007.
