TRINIDAD — The 2018 Chenoweth Award Banquet, hosted by the Trinidad Las Animas County Chamber of Commerce, was held at the Trinidad Holiday Inn on Saturday, March 24 to honor 2107 Chenoweth Award winner Cy Michaels.
Michaels was honored for her many years of extensive service to the community, serving on numerous boards and committees. During her time in Trinidad, she has served on the TLAC Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Trinidad Tourism board, the Mitchell Museum Art Board, and the Rotary Club, and has contributed time, money, and resources to support the overall welfare of her community. Michaels is often referred to as, “Trinidad’s greatest Ambassador.” This year’s award ceremony included three additional awards:
The Longevity Award was presented to CEO Ed Eisemann representing the First National Bank in Trinidad, which has done business in Trinidad for 143 years and is one of the oldest Chamber members in the community.
The Community Contribution Award went to Joni Steiner, Earth Mountain Education Farm, and Comida Market for their role in creating and supporting the Trinidad Community Garden on North Linden Avenue. They have enriched the community by collaborating on projects with the Youth Club of Trinidad, the Girl Scouts, Trinidad State Junior College, local schools, the health department, the city of Trinidad, the district attorney’s office, juvenile diversion programs, and the probation department.
The President’s Award for an outstanding, ongoing, cultural event went to The Trinidaddio Blues Fest, Inc., Jerry Campbell, and Rusty Goodall for their in-depth work of keeping this event happening every year, and for the many local charitable donations that stem from their continued success.
The TLAC Chamber of Commerce is honored to have been able to recognize and present awards to the many recipients of the Chenoweth Award for their service to the community. In 1979 the Honorable Judge J. Edgar Chenoweth received the first Chenoweth Award. The annual event was subsequently named after him. The community is encouraged to submit nominations of deserving community members for this prestigious award for the coming year starting in January 2019.
