SPRINGER — According to Velma Crawford of the Springer Chamber of Commerce, their June 8 meeting was short and sweet. The group voted to help the town purchase a pair of large scissors for ribbon cutting ceremonies.
Next on the agenda was their summer concert series which is still in the planning stage. Potential musicians they are considering include Purple Sage, Tommy Kear, and duo Floyd Aguilar and Paul Santistevan, but no dates have been set yet – Crawford says they are going to let the musicians pick the dates that work best for them. Additionally, the chamber is tossing around ideas for their Colfax County Fair float for the parade which will happen at the beginning of August.
As far as their search for a new president goes, chamber member Landon Newton is chairperson of a committee to search for a new president for the group, but so far no potential candidates have been located.
After the meeting, the group headed over to the Springer Mobile Home Park to commemorate it with cake and iced tea. The park has been in operation since the 1960’s and was purchased by Louie Ortiz’s (the current owner) father in 1968. According to Ortiz, the park has twenty-five spots that will accommodate a combination of single and double-wide mobile homes.
