WALSENBURG — On Friday, March 25, Agustin Garcia and Janice Camacho, both 31, the residents of the home on Huerfano CR 530 that was the scene of a fatal shooting of a suspected home invader on Monday, March 14, appeared in court for first advisement following their arrest.

Both were charged with offenses relating to marijuana and marijuana concentrate and both were initially represented by Dariel Weaver of the state public defender’s office.

The brief hearing was presided over by Huerfano County Court Judge Gary Stork for the Third Judicial District Court.

Both defendants appeared in custody and bond for each was set at $50,000 cash. The investigation into the incident in which Jorge Gonzalez, 39, of the Fort Morgan area of Colorado was shot and killed by one of the residents continues according to Huerfano County Sheriff Bruce Newman. Newman said the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the US Drug Enforcement Agency are working the case along with the sheriff’s office and meetings between the agencies and the district attorney’s office are scheduled.

Garcia suffered a gunshot wound to the hand during the incident and Gonzalez suffered at least one fatal gunshot wound to his left eye. The investigation into the shooting continues although no charges related to the homicide have been announced. Both defendants are scheduled to be back in court on April 11, 2016 at 1:30 pm.
