County settles lawsuit for $200K

WALSENBURG– Huerfano County Commissioners settled out-of -court on a lawsuit brought by Raymond Montoya regarding his treatment at the hands in the Huerfano County jail in March 2011. The total amount of the settlement was $200,000, with the county paying $50,000. The balance will be picked up by the county insurance agency. Montoya claimed his 8th and 14th Amendment rights were violated when he was incarcerated at the Huerfano County jail, when he contracted MERSA. Montoya had to be transported to the local hospital, where he was airlifted to another hospital’s ICU, where he spent two weeks for treatment.
