Commissioners receieve Gateway information

by Larry Patrick

WALSENBURG-  A new development is looking to build south of Walsenburg in the Gateway subdivision. Joseph Bullen of Pueblo has set up a company that plans to build a 26,000 sq. foot motel, a restaurant and a convenience shopping center featuring 14 gas pumps that will be 46,800 feet in size.  Residential condominiums, townhouses and single family detached housing are also slated for the area. The project is expected to be built on 52 acres west of exit 49. Bullen is seeking highway access permits off I-25 at exit 49. A development had been approved for that area a few years ago but that developer never moved forward with the project. A timeline on beginning the construction was not given. Whether the motel or convenience store will be franchise names was also not immediately known.

The offices at the courthouse are getting spiffed up with some new furniture. The assessors and treasuer offices have new desks with other offices to also receive them soon.

Donna Haddow gave a report to the Commissioners on the Las Animas/Huerfano County Housing Resources program. 5 loans have been done so far to assist low income people with housing. Loans are in amounts under $5,000 for renovation with the people seeking the loans required to contribute at least $500 to the projects.
