THE CITY OF WALSENBURG is hiring for the position of Accountant/Payroll for up to 40 hours per week. Starting pay is $15 per hour negotiable depending on education and experience. Job duties include but are not limited to the following: Prepare bank reconciliations, process general ledger entries, prepare analysis and verification of account balances, maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules, process payroll on a bi-weekly basis along with related taxes and benefits, assist utility office with A/P, special revenue collection, utility billing and customer service. Assistance with annual audit providing records and reports as needed. Special projects may include researching improperly processed paperwork, working with vendors and staff to reconcile discrepancies and assist with technical issues, researching variances, tracking and verifying expenditures, and ensuring accuracy and compliance of financial transactions. Ensures compliance and consistency with fiscal rules and regulations, identifies inaccuracies, reconciles discrepancies, and recommends corrective action within scope of work. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Knowledge of Caselle software is desirable. Must be able to pass a drug test and background check. Qualifications: Knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and/or FASB standards. Principles and procedures of financial record keeping and reporting. Use of Microsoft Office software and tools (primarily Excel and Word).Education Requirement:  Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or closely related field is strongly preferred. Experience Requirement: 2 years of professional accounting experience with a degree or 5 years without a degree. Government or fund accounting experience is highly desirable.
