WALSENBURG — New Hope Community Church in Walsenburg is making some big changes in its food distribution ministry. The food pantry operation will be at the Huerfano County Community Center at 928 Russel Street every fourth Tuesday of the month. The food pantry formerly operated out of the church building on Wednesdays. Food is no longer stored or distributed from the church property. This month’s distribution is June 27, from noon to 2 pm.
In addition to the date and location change, an additional program is being added. New Hope members and volunteers are now administering TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program). While the original program still only requires a sign-in and no eligibility requirements, TEFAP requires a photo identification, and is available only to persons meeting certain guidelines. Volunteers will be present to help guide visitors through the new process. New Hope program leaders appreciate the expanded space and parking available at the community center, made available in cooperation with the Huerfano Board of County Commissioners to better serve those who benefit from the food pantry.
