Cell Tower by La Veta

by Carol Stevens

HUERFANO- A cell tower was the hot topic on a hot afternoon at the Planning and Zoning meeting.  Mickey Villella was on hand to  discuss the installation of a communication tower in the La Veta area.  He stated the tower would benefit residents by offering coverage from Highway 12 to Cuchara, including all the way to Interstate 25.

Board member Max Vezzani asked Villella for maps showing the proposed coverage area, and an artist’s rendering of the proposed tower as it relates to La Veta and the mountains. Vezzani also recommended having the rendering and maps ready for public viewing, and placed in local publications, by July 31.  A joint public hearing is slated for August 19, at 2 pm, at the La Veta Community Center. The public is invited to attend and express any concerns about the tower.

In other P&Z action, Duane Bacon, president of Energy Oil and Gas Corporation, submitted an application to drill a gas well in the northwest quadrant of Huerfano County, near the Huerfano River.  Board members tabled the application until Bacon can fully meet requirements.
