Caucus night for area Republicans

HUERFANO — With modest turnouts, Huerfano County Republicans met to caucus, just like every other voter in the state.

Local candidates spoke of their positions to the office for which they are running. Jim Chamberlain is running for Huerfano County Sheriff. He would focus on eradicating the illegal drug problem, on mitigation of the rising crime-rate (there has been a drastic rise in burglaries, fights, stabbings, etc.) and he would also provide equitable law-enforcement around the entire county.

Lola Spradley is running for the Spanish Peaks Hospital Board. Candidate Spradley was the first female Speaker of the House for the State of CO and understands how the state and federal governments work and knows how to get things done and corrected.

Ron Nielsen is running for two positions, the Spanish Peaks Hospital Board and the La Veta Fire & Rescue Dept. Board. Nielsen retired to Huerfano County after 32 years of state service with the Colorado Department of Human Services. Nielsen serves, and has served, on several county and Colorado regional boards including the Las Animas/ Huerfano County Community Board for Developmental & Disability Citizen Advocacy and as a Family- Member Representative on the Veterans Advisory Board at the Veterans Center.
