SPLD; the Bunny Hop Book Hunt

WALSENBURG— The Bunny Hop Book Hunt will be all through the month of April.  Bring your children to the Spanish Peaks Library in Walsenburg where they will be handed a playing score sheet with three categories of books to find.  When your child finds all 3 books, bring them to the front desk and your child will win a prize!

SPLD presents the Cottontail Run

WALSENBURG— Cottontail Run will be held all through the month of April at the Spanish Peaks Library in Walsenburg.  This is a chance for older children and adults to have a little springtime fun!  This is a timed task to see how quickly you can find a book in our library in both fiction and non-fiction categories.  Books found are written on the score sheet and the fastest time wins a prize!

The Leisure Seeker- movie matinee at LVPL

LA VETA— The La Veta Library welcomes you to join us on Thursday, April 13 at 2 p.m. as we present “The Leisure Seeker” as our matinee offering for the month.  Starring legendary award winning actors, Donald Sutherland and Helen Miran, the movie takes us on an unforgettable journey with an older couple “escaping” their life in Boston in their faithful RV for an unforgettable trip to Key West, Florida.  Filled with tender moments and surprises, it is a movie that will stay with you long after the credits. As always, free with tasty refreshments.

Voices of the Past

GARDNER– Join us for our annual Voices of the Past presentation on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. in the Gardner Valley School Cafeteria.  This project, which began over thirty years ago, helps preserve our area’s history and gives young people a chance to interview and get to know the older generations.  The 7th and 8th grade students will present their essays on April 13.

JMHS Theater: presenting the Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon

WALSENBURG— On Thursday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m.,  the JMHS Theater Class will be putting on a production of The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon at Washington Auditorium (201 E 5th). There is an admission fee of $5 cash for adults, $4 for students (used to help offset the cost of production rights). We hope to see you there.

SPLD Presents Storytime with Mrs. Flamingo

WALSENBURG— Join the Spanish Peaks Library District in Walsenburg every Friday from 10:30-11:30 a.m.  Join our Children’s Librarian, Mrs Flamingo as she reads a story and participate in a craft related to the story!  Don’t miss this fun and creative program to share with your kids! You can also catch Storytime with Mrs. Flamingo every other Saturday at the Walsenburg Mercantile. Saturday, April 15 at 2 p.m. will be the next reading at the Mercantile.

La Veta Arbor Day tree planting

LA VETA— Mayor Doug Brgoch has declared Friday, April 14 as Arbor Day for the Town of La Veta. Please join members of La Veta Park and Tree Board on Friday, April 14 at 1 p.m. at the corner of W Cascade St. and Cherry St. in La Veta for the planting of the Town’s Arbor Day tree. Keith Hauber, retired arborist, will be conducting a short educational session about proper tree planting and maintenance during and after the tree planting. Please join us as we continue our 37 year heritage as a Tree City USA town with this Arbor Day tree planting.

SPLD: Flicks at the Library

WALSENBURG—Friday, April 14, 1:30 p.m.  This month’s movie is The Princess Bride, a fairy tale adventure about a beautiful young woman and her one true love.  He must find her after a long separation and save her.  They must battle the evils of the mythical kingdom of Florin to be reunited with each other.  Join us for a fun afternoon at the Spanish Peaks Library in Walsenburg!  Free popcorn and movie, but BYOB.  Children MUST be accompanied by an adult.

Barefoot in the Park by FCPA

LA VETA— Francisco Center for the Performing Arts proudly present “Barefoot in the Park”, a play by Neil Simon. Paul and Corie Bratter are newlyweds in every sense of the word. After a six day honeymoon, they get a surprise visit from Corie’s loopy mother and decide to play matchmaker during a dinner with their neighbor-in-the-attic Velasco, where everything that can go wrong does. Huerfano 4-H Council spaghetti dinner and silent auction

LA VETA— Join the Huerfano County 4-H Council for their spaghetti dinner and silent auction on Sunday April 16 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.  The event will take place at the 4-H Barn located at 401 Moore Ave in La Veta. Adult tickets are $10, kids 6-18 cost $7, and kids 5 and under eat free.

Water Conservancy Dist. meeting

La Veta Writes Writing Group

LA VETA— La Veta Writes is a local writing group. Whether you’re a longtime writer working on a project, a song writer, or simply feeling to make writing a bigger part of your life, come check out our monthly gathering on April 18. Earth Day and Beaver Day

WALSENBURG— Get started at the River Front in Walsenburg on Friday, April 21, from 10 – 12:30 p.m.  We will be De-Trashing the stream and having a biologist speak on the local beavers that recently moved into the area and their importance to our ecosystem and impact on biodiversity.
In addition to picking up trash, and the informative talk, we are also offering free food from Gub Gub’s Pizza and Ice Cream to all attendees. The event will take place on the River Walk near the South Bridge, across from the Anchor Motel, from 10  to 12:30 p.m.

Earth Day Tree Planting at Lathrop State Park

WALSENBURG— Join us at the visitor center to plant native trees and shrubs around the park. Our annual Earth Day Event pays tribute to volunteer Jon Sudar, who served at Lathrop State Park after retiring as a park ranger in the Grand Canyon.  His work helped build our history, geocache, and natural resource programs until his passing on Earth Day in 2015.

Colfax County Farm & Livestock Bureau Scholarship

COLFAX— The Colfax County Farm & Livestock Bureau is pleased to offer two $750 scholarships for the 2023/2024 school year. Scholarship applicants are required to be a resident of Colfax County. They may be graduating home school or high school seniors, college undergraduate, vocational or trade school students. Boating Safety Course

33rd Annual Family Health Fair

COLFAX—  Individuals of all ages from Colfax County, the surrounding area and beyond are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to obtain important health screenings and information from exhibitors at the 33rd Annual Family Health Fair. This year’s event will be held Thursday, April 27, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., at the Raton Convention Center, located at 901 South Third Street. Numerous free and reduced-fee health screenings can be found throughout the convention center along with information from over 40 educational exhibitors and professionals who will have information on a wide variety of health topics. Appointments are not needed for the screenings, but will be taken on a first come, first serve basis.

Dance Party

RATON— Youth Heartline’ presents Show your blue dance party on Saturday, April 29, 6 p.m. at the Raton Convention Center. This is a free event, open to all ages with raffle and door prizes. There will also be food, drinks, games, face painting and a photobooth!

Sloat Prince Foundation Scholarship for Colfax County graduates

COLFAX— The Sloat-Prince Foundation offers scholarships to graduates of Colfax County public or private high schools and to current Colfax County residents who may have graduated from high school elsewhere.  This includes public, private, charter, parochial or home school graduates.  To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college/university, or a vocational, trade or business school.  New recipient applications, including official transcripts of all semesters, must be received by the Foundation Board on or before June 15, 2023.  Applications are now available by emailing umwaroy@bacavalley.com or by contacting your school’s administration or guidance counselor.

Care and Share Mobile Market returns to La Veta

LA VETA—  The La Veta Village assisted living residence partners with Care and Share Food Bank of Southern Colorado to provide food for those in need in the greater La Veta area. The Mobile Market provides no-cost groceries. Everyone in the community is welcome to shop at the market. Simply walk up and choose food you would like to take home. WALSENBURG— New Hope Community Church at 801 Pennsylvania Avenue in Walsenburg will have its annual Easter sunrise service on Easter Sunday, April 9 at 6:15 a.m. A carry in fellowship breakfast follows the service. Services at the regular time from 10:00 – 11:15 will also be held.

LA VETA— Resurrection Sunday morning will be a breakfast starting at 9 a.m. and service starting at 10 a.m.  Sunday, April 9 at the 4-H building in La Veta.  The Feed Store Church is hosting the event.  Please join us and bring your friends and family.

Fire truck egg drop Easter Sunday

WALSENBURG— Join Praise Church Walsenburg 311 W 4th St on Sunday, April 9, starting at 9 a.m. for Easter activities. Breakfast starts at 9 a.m. and is free. At 10:30 will be Easter Service following at 12 p.m. join us in the parking lot for the Egg Drop and visit with the Huerfano County Fire Department.

Free tax preparation

HUERFANO— Tax Day is April 18!  Another Life Foundation offers FREE income tax preparation to eligible community members (those who make $58,000 or less). Our IRS VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) sites are now open in Huerfano County.  Walk-ins every Monday from 3 – 6 p.m. at the La Veta Public Library and every Wednesday from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at Spanish Peaks Library District in Walsenburg through April 17. This year, Rabbi Jack Shlachter will lead the Seder, and the meal will again be catered by Alys Romer, who has provided incredible meals for Temple Aaron events for many years. Seats are $36 for nonmember adults, $10 for nonmember children ages 6-13, and free for children under 5. Members of Temple Aaron may attend at no charge. TRINIDAD— Help Trinidad Trails Alliance put the finishing touches on our new trail segment at the Wormhole! Tentatively named “Mahogany” for the many Mountain Mahogany bushes along it. Afterwards we will have a celebratory hike / run / bike along the new trail to break it in!

Preschool registration

WALSENBURG— Peakview Preschool will be registering for the Preschool Program for the year 2023-2024 at Peakview Elementary School on Sunday, April 2, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. This is a new program called Universal Preschool Program approved by the Governor to better serve our children. Eligible children include those who are three years old prior to June 1 st ; four-year old children prior to kindergarten; and pre-school students with disabilities in accordance with IEPs. In past years, families were able to register their child a week before the start of school start. However, this program does not work like that. Families are required to register online and then come to the school to fill out a paper application. On April 2 nd, preschool staff will be available to assist in the online registration process. Mining Museum Volunteer Meeting

WALSENBURG—It’s time to dust off the miners’ hats and arrange a new exhibit for the Walsenburg Mining Museum.  Volunteers are meeting next Tuesday, April 4, at 9:30 a.m. to prepare for the summer tourist season starting May 1.  As part of the cleaning process the volunteers will have a peek at behind-the scene rooms in this historic 1896 jail.  New volunteers are always welcome to this enthusiastic group who keep the coal mining history alive. Schneider Brewery restoration/ demo project has started

TRINIDAD— As announced last September, Downtown Trinidad Development Group plans to preserve the landmark Schneider Brewery building through a selective demolition and restoration project, which began on Monday, Jan. 23. Trinidad Construction Group is the general contractor for the project. Major sections of the complex deemed structurally unsound by Sun Mountain Design Group will be removed during this process, which is estimated to last 90 days. Short-term traffic disruptions are expected. Plans for the Schneider Brewery buildings’ renewal may include a mixture of retail, residential and office spaces.
The brewery is located at 236 North Convent St.

Cheryl Leef exhibits art at TPL’s Art Wall

TRINIDAD— Local artist Cheryl Leef grew up on a ranch in Wyoming and has spent most of her adult life in Southern Colorado. Her inspiration to paint is from the beauty of the local natural world. She works in oil paint and also in mixed media, where she uses natural objects to embellish her artwork. She is exhibiting seven works at the Trinidad Public Library during the month of March.

Passover Registration Now Open

TRINIDAD— Friday, April 7, 5:30 p.m. at Temple Aaron of Trinidad, 407 S. Maple St. The Passover Seder at Temple Aaron (in person) is a highlight each year. This year, Rabbi Jack Shlachter will lead the Seder, and the meal will again be catered by Alys Romer, who has provided incredible meals for Temple Aaron events for many years. Preschool registration

WALSENBURG— Peakview Preschool will be registering for the Preschool Program for the year 2023-2024 at Peakview Elementary School on Sunday, April 2, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. This is a new program called Universal Preschool Program approved by the Governor to better serve our children. Eligible children include those who are three years old prior to June 1 st ; four-year old children prior to kindergarten; and pre-school students with disabilities in accordance with IEPs. In past years, families were able to register their child a week before the start of school start. However, this program does not work like that. Families are required to register online and then come to the school to fill out a paper application. On April 2 nd, preschool staff will be available to assist in the online registration process. TRINIDAD— The Trinidad Public Library is hosting a sky watching event on Tuesday, March 28, at 6 p.m., at the library. Astronomy professor, Zach Stockbridge is teaming up with the library to show us how to use the telescope that we check out to patrons. Then we’ll go outside and take a look at the moon. The moon will be in its first quarter that night, which is perfect for viewing. This program is open to the public of all ages.

COLFAX— PED announces its new tutoring service in partnership with Paper that focuses on mathematics, language arts and science. The program offers students in grades preK-8 from New Mexico Title I Schools access to free academic support from tutors on a secure platform. Participating students will receive 20 hours of tutoring at no cost to families.

Small acreage workshop

WALSENBURG— The Huerfano County Small Acreage workshop will be held on Saturday, March 18, at the Huerfano County Community Center, at 928 Russell St. in Walsenburg. It will run from 8:30 in the morning until 5 p.m. that evening, with lunch provided as a break.  The workshop will be hosted by the Huerfano County Assessor’s office and the CSU extension office.
County experts and officials will give talks at scheduled times throughout the day on much-needed information, that will help citizens of Huerfano County find help or figure out who they might need to talk to, or even how to ask the right question, as they interact with the county.

Schneider Brewery restoration/ demo project has started

TRINIDAD— As announced last September, Downtown Trinidad Development Group plans to preserve the landmark Schneider Brewery building through a selective demolition and restoration project, which began on Monday, Jan. 23. Trinidad Construction Group is the general contractor for the project. Major sections of the complex deemed structurally unsound by Sun Mountain Design Group will be removed during this process, which is estimated to last 90 days. Short-term traffic disruptions are expected. Plans for the Schneider Brewery buildings’ renewal may include a mixture of retail, residential and office spaces.
The brewery is located at 236 North Convent St.

Cheryl Leef exhibits art at TPL’s Art Wall

TRINIDAD— Local artist Cheryl Leef grew up on a ranch in Wyoming and has spent most of her adult life in Southern Colorado. Her inspiration to paint is from the beauty of the local natural world. She works in oil paint and also in mixed media, where she uses natural objects to embellish her artwork. She is exhibiting seven works at the Trinidad Public Library during the month of March.

TRINIDAD— The Trinidad Public Library is hosting a sky watching event on Tuesday, March 28, at 6 p.m., at the library. Astronomy professor, Zach Stockbridge is teaming up with the library to show us how to use the telescope that we check out to patrons. Then we’ll go outside and take a look at the moon. 2 Peaks, 1 Book movie event

LA VETA— The first event in this year’s “2 Peaks-1 Book” Community book read will be the showing of the original Swedish (subtitled) version of the film “A Man Called Ove”. This critically acclaimed movie is funny, touching and unforgettable as the life of a grumpy old man changes when a young family moves in next door and the events that brought him to the place in life are revealed. Schneider Brewery restoration/ demo project has started

TRINIDAD— As announced last September, Downtown Trinidad Development Group plans to preserve the landmark Schneider Brewery building through a selective demolition and restoration project, which began on Monday, Jan. 23. Trinidad Construction Group is the general contractor for the project. Major sections of the complex deemed structurally unsound by Sun Mountain Design Group will be removed during this process, which is estimated to last 90 days. Short-term traffic disruptions are expected. Plans for the Schneider Brewery buildings’ renewal may include a mixture of retail, residential and office spaces.
The brewery is located at 236 North Convent St.

Adult winter reading program

TRINIDAD— The Trinidad Carnegie Public Library is excited to announce the Adult Winter Reading Program, open to anyone 18 years or older. The program runs through Friday, March 17. COLFAX— PED announces its new tutoring service in partnership with Paper that focuses on mathematics, language arts and science. The program offers students in grades preK-8 from New Mexico Title I Schools access to free academic support from tutors on a secure platform. RATON— Are you struggling with addiction? Would you like to support a friend who is struggling with addiction? Join Elias Romero, a 17 year certified Peer Support Worker who will facilitate the group. OUR WORLD— Saturday, March 4, 10 a.m. will be our March Torah Study, and we are honored to welcome Rabbi Paul Citrin for this month’s study. Many of you may know Rabbi Citrin, whose work as a congregational rabbi, interfaith leader, and writer have touched so many lives. Now retired in Albuquerque, Rabbi Citrin continues to teach at a variety of venues in New Mexico. We are grateful he will be joining us March 4 and we hope you can attend this Zoom session.

WALSENBURG— Library at your door is a new service at the Spanish Peaks Library.  Here’s how it works: if there is a book you would like and it’s not available in our catalog, log into spld.org and go to Services, click on Library at Your Door and fill out the form.  If your request is approved, we will buy the book and Amazon will ship it directly to you.  When you have finished reading, bring the book back to the library and we will add it to our collection!  This service is available for books, large print books, DVD’s and Blu-Ray.

Spanish Peaks Healthcare Foundation scholarships available

LA VETA— The La Veta Library will again be presenting our popular spring event “2 Peaks-1 Book” a Community  Book Read. This  year we have chosen “a Man Called Ove” as our selection. This debut novel by Stockholm native Fredrick Bachman introduces us to Ove, a thoroughly grumpy older man who has staunch principals, a quick temper and who is contemplating putting an end to it all, when circumstances and life gets in the way.

LA VETA— The La Veta Village assisted living residence partners with Care and Share Food Bank of Southern Colorado to provide food for those in need in the greater La Veta area. We are proud to announce a new Care and Share partnership: the Mobile Market. The monthly Mobile Market provides no-cost groceries. Everyone in need in the community is welcome to shop at the market. Simply walk up and choose food you would like to take home. The first Mobile Market visit comes to the La Veta Village parking lot on East Francisco Street on Friday, March 3 from 2 – 4 p.m. At the Mobile Market, you can expect to find produce, dairy products, shelf-stable goods, and a variety of other foods for you to take home.

Schneider Brewery restoration/ demo project has started

TRINIDAD— As announced last September, Downtown Trinidad Development Group plans to preserve the landmark Schneider Brewery building through a selective demolition and restoration project, which began on Monday, Jan. 23. Trinidad Construction Group is the general contractor for the project. Major sections of the complex deemed structurally unsound by Sun Mountain Design Group will be removed during this process, which is estimated to last 90 days. Short-term traffic disruptions are expected. Plans for the Schneider Brewery buildings’ renewal may include a mixture of retail, residential and office spaces.
The brewery is located at 236 North Convent St.

Adult winter reading program

TRINIDAD— The Trinidad Carnegie Public Library is excited to announce the Adult Winter Reading Program, open to anyone 18 years or older. The program started on Monday, Jan. 23 rd , and runs until Friday, March 17 th . Once you register for the program, the library will be using a computer application, ReadSquared, to track your progress. You can register by visiting the library’s website, https://trinidadpubliclibrary.org. If you don’t have access to the internet, the library staff can register you and log your reading for you. On Thursday, March 2, at 6 p.m., we will be hosting a discussion of 2 books: Circe, by Madeline Miller, and The Bear, by Andrew Krivak. On Saturday, March 11th, at 1 p.m., we will be hosting a discussion of the other 2 books: When the Emperor Was Devine, by Julie Otsuka, and Station Eleven, by Emily St. John Mandel. Both events are open to the public—you don’t have to be registered in the reading program, and you are welcome to come whether or not you read any of the books. This will be a chance to hear about some great reads, and everyone is welcome to ask questions and to join in on the discussion.

COLFAX— PED announces its new tutoring service in partnership with Paper that focuses on mathematics, language arts and science. The program offers students in grades preK-8 from New Mexico Title I Schools access to free academic support from tutors on a secure platform. Join Elias Romero, a 17 year certified Peer Support Worker who will facilitate the group. International Santa Fe Trail Balloon Rally art competition

WALSENBURG— Library at your door is a new service at the Spanish Peaks Library.  Here’s how it works: if there is a book you would like and it’s not available in our catalog, log into spld.org and go to Services, click on Library at Your Door and fill out the form.  If your request is approved, we will buy the book and Amazon will ship it directly to you.  When you have finished reading, bring the book back to the library and we will add it to our collection!  This service is available for books, large print books, DVD’s and Blu-Ray.

Spanish Peaks Healthcare Foundation scholarships available

HUERFANO—  The Spanish Peaks Healthcare Foundation is soliciting applicants for scholarships that may be available to you if you are interested in pursuing higher education in any of the biomedical or healthcare related fields.  Are you an individual earning a high school diploma or equivalent or are you an individual wanting to further your education in vocational studies, certification programs, an associates degree, or a 4-year college degree?  You can apply for a scholarship.  Applications are available from La Veta Public Library, Spanish Peaks Public Library District, your high school counselor or Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center Administration Office.  Or contact Patricia Davis at mrsdr50@gmail.com to request an application.  Application deadline is April 17, 2023, at 4 p.m.

This class is to teach you how you can relieve stress with essential oils, how they work, and why they are effective for all ages. Care and Share mobile market

LA VETA— The La Veta Village assisted living residence partners with Care and Share Food Bank of Southern Colorado to provide food for those in need in the greater La Veta area. We are proud to announce a new Care and Share partnership: the Mobile Market. The monthly Mobile Market provides no-cost groceries. Everyone in need in the community is welcome to shop at the market. Simply walk up and choose food you would like to take home. The first Mobile Market visit comes to the La Veta Village parking lot on East Francisco Street on Friday, March 3 from 2 – 4 p.m. At the Mobile Market, you can expect to find produce, dairy products, shelf-stable goods, and a variety of other foods for you to take home.

How to be a More Effective Board Member training

SPRINGER— Board members typically work hard to be productive and efficient in serving their organizations. An excellent board member will strive to make good decisions in a timely manner. Therefore, the Springer Chamber of Commerce is hosting a meeting providing information on how to be a more effective board member.
Presenting information and guiding the discussion is Melyn Johnson, the Main Street Director of Guymon (Okla.) Johnson, named the 2022 Oklahoma Main Street Director of the Year, has 30 years of experience working with different boards. Prior to being the Main Street Director. She plans to address different types of organizations and boards, discuss by-laws, ethics, committees, annual calendars, annual meetings, events and programs, funding, and volunteer development.

Two Forgotten Founders of La Veta NEW DATE!

LA VETA—  In the annals of La Veta’s founding, two colorful, daring, and honorable men get scant mention. But without them La Veta might never have flourished. Main Street Clean up day with De-Trash Walsenburg

WALSENBURG— Join forces with the De-Trash Group and our local businesses to help keep Walsenburg looking its best! WALSENBURG— Spanish Peaks Business Alliance is holding a lovefest event for non-profits on Friday, Feb. 17, 12 – 4 p.m. at Lathrop State Park visitors center, followed by happy hour networking at the Walsenburg Golf Course.   The keynote presentation is on board development by Kathy Turzu, executive director of One Nation Walking Together.   After lunch, presentations will be given on volunteer management, elevator pitches and grant writing tips. At 2 p.m., funders will be introduced: Huerfano County Governemnet, GOCO, the Rawlings Foundation and more.  Free to SPBA members, $10 for other guests.

Wisdom Archives: Exploring Huerfano County History

HUERFANO— Huajatolla Heritage Foundation has been awarded a small grant from the Huerfano County Historical Society to create a valuable project in Huerfano County. Join Sylvia Brandl, Ron Sandoval and Sandy Dolak as we seek community involvement for this important endeavor, “A Pictorial Archive of 25 Founding Hispano Families of Huerfano County”.  Please come with your stories and photos to be part of this project. Sylvia will be able to scan your photos on the spot and hand them right back to you. Ron will be interested in collecting family names and stories to add to the genealogy base. This will be compiled into a display that will travel throughout Huerfano County in the summer 2023 as part of this important project. We will have meetings for the initial sharing of pictures and stories Saturday, Feb. 18, 1 – 3 p.m. at the La Veta Library. Sunday Feb. 19, 1 – 3 p.m. at the Spanish Peaks Library in Walsenburg.  Monday, Feb. 20, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at La Clinica in Gardner. Flamingo Story Time

Care and Share Mobile Market

LA VETA— The La Veta Village assisted living residence partners with Care and Share Food Bank of Southern Colorado to provide food for those in need in the greater La Veta area. We are proud to announce a new Care and Share partnership: the Mobile Market. The monthly Mobile Market provides no-cost groceries. Everyone in need in the community is welcome to shop at the market. Simply walk up and choose food you would like to take home. The first Mobile Market visit comes to the La Veta Village parking lot on East Francisco Street on Friday, March 3 from 2 – 4 p.m. At the Mobile Market, you can expect to find produce, dairy products, shelf-stable goods, and a variety of other foods for you to take home.

Schneider Brewery restoration/ demo project has started

TRINIDAD— As announced last September, Downtown Trinidad Development Group plans to preserve the landmark Schneider Brewery building through a selective demolition and restoration project, which began on Monday, Jan. 23. Trinidad Construction Group is the general contractor for the project. Major sections of the complex deemed structurally unsound by Sun Mountain Design Group will be removed during this process, which is estimated to last 90 days. Short-term traffic disruptions are expected. Plans for the Schneider Brewery buildings’ renewal may include a mixture of retail, residential and office spaces.
The brewery is located at 236 North Convent Street.

How to be a More Effective Board Member training

SPRINGER— Board members typically work hard to be productive and efficient in serving their organizations. An excellent board member will strive to make good decisions in a timely manner. Therefore, the Springer Chamber of Commerce is hosting a meeting providing information on how to be a more effective board member.
Presenting information and guiding the discussion is Melyn Johnson, the Main Street Director of Guymon (Okla.) Johnson, named the 2022 Oklahoma Main Street Director of the Year, has 30 years of experience working with different boards. Prior to being the Main Street Director. She plans to address different types of organizations and boards, discuss by-laws, ethics, committees, annual calendars, annual meetings, events and programs, funding, and volunteer development.
